Shashankasana (Moon Pose / Hare Pose)

 

Shashankasana ( Moon Pose / Hare Pose) 

The word ‘Shashanka’  in Sanskrit means moon.  The person doing this  asana resembles a moon.

 

Procedure

  1. Sit on the floor with knees bent as in Vajrasana.

  2. Inhale and raise both hands up.

  3. Bend slowly from the waist while exhaling.

  4. Place hands on the ground.

  5. The forehead should touch the ground.

  6. Remain in this position for few seconds.

  7. Inhale and slowly raise the arms to a vertical position.

  8. Exhale while lowering arms to the knees.

Benefits 

Ø       Useful in lumbar spondylitis.

·         Releases pressure of the vertebral disc, thereby curing backache.

·         Highly useful in nervous disorders such as anxiety, insomnia ( sleeplessness),

          and mental worries.

·         Strengthens  the mind and energises the brain.

·         Helps in curing constipation.

·         Eliminates problems of male and female reproductive organs.

·         Tones pelvic muscles of women.

·         Regulates functioning of adrenal glands.

 

Precautions
